PRAKSHEPAN

.....prime rockets in action
Let the destruction devil in you come alive, propel your imagination, fire your thoughts... we will put them in right orbit….

Gear up!!! register yourself in the league of rocket scientists…….

“PRA]ep[” is to be an annual rocketry event in Conscientia, the technical fest of IIST. It is the only event of its kind, where budding engineers wet their hands on rocket science. Come this march; build your own water rocket, a humble beginning to start with.
Problem Statement:
Build a single stage water rocket, to achieve the maximum horizontal range.

Format:
1)Each team consists of utmost three (3) members.
2) Team Registration Fee is Rs.30/- and it is non-refundable. Conserve the payment slip for further verification. Check the event code: PRK on the slip.
3) To win rocket must reach record horizontal range using a single stage. Multi-Stage Rockets are not allowed. (Don’t let your innovation die; future competitions may give you that chance. But now, stick to single stage.)
4) Each team will be allowed to fire the rocket twice and best of the two performances will be selected for evaluation.
5) Winner will be rewarded with certificate and suitable cash prize.

Rules:
1) Rocket must be completely scratch-built using materials which are not manufactured for model rocket parts.
2) Pressure Vessel must be made from commercially available non metallic soda bottles (600ml each) that can withstand pressure of……... Maximum of two bottles can be used. Fins, if required are to be constructed from lightweight nonmetallic materials.
3) All parts of the water rocket must be attached properly. If any part (fins, etc.) are broken apart during flight, it will lead to safety concern of the spectators. Therefore, such water rockets may be debarred from the competition.
4) Each team is expected to bring two rockets of same design - one as the main rocket and other as the back-up. It is not mandatory, but strongly advised to do so. Organizer won’t be responsible in anyway if something goes wrong with your lone rocket at the sight of competition.
5) Rocket must use tap Water as its primary reaction mass. Thrust must come from expelling reaction mass, not from air discharge. Water Reaction Mass must fill a minimum of 20% of the volume of the Pressure Vessel.
6) Water Rocket must use compressed ambient atmospheric air as its energy source. The organizer will provide the bicycle pump to compress the air. The outlet of the pump will have size compatible with that of the bottle mentioned in rule-2. If design has different nozzle size, please ensure to bring your own connecting pipes. The maximum pressure of the compressed air allowed is…..
7) Rocket must be launched from a stationary launcher provided by the organizer. It will have provision to adjust firing angle as per the requirement of the participant.
8) Organizers reserve the right to modify the rules for the betterment of the competition. Suggestions are welcomed. Participants are not allowed to argue over the rules. This is a must to avoid clashes and maintain decorum of the event.
